The restaurants recommended in this blog have all been visited by me and my wife and often with friends. We have visited them at least once. I only recommend restaurants that have a quality that, in my opinion, makes them worth a visit.
Some are world class restaurants, some are very simple, but the food is always worth the price and the chefs have prepared it with pride and love of good food.
The food is essential for being mentioned here. Minor problems when it comes to service and other things are mentioned but does not disqualify them from being recommended.
We have also eaten in some restaurants in the area that do not leave any memories worth writing about.
Finally we have been to very few bad restaurants and have been badly serviced in a few.
These three categories are marked differently in List of Restaurants.
♥ marks our special restaurants. On the map they are found by the red marks and in the search term list under coup de ceur

RISTORANTE da MARIO alla FAVA

RISTORANTE da MARIO alla FAVA - Calle Stagneri 5242 | San Marco, Venezia

It is expensive to eat in Venice and it is full of tourist traps were you leave without feeling that you have got worth your money. We however found a very good restaurant that was packed with local people. We understood later that it was quite famous among local people. We got fantastic lamb-chops and turbot that was a dream. Perfect to a reasonable prize.

KIKARA

KIKARA - Iparraguirre 23, 48009 Bilbao

Kikara is a real super designed modern restaurant for the young and beautiful, but nobody minded us a little more matured being there. The design of the place is really something else and you get happy just sitting there. The food is excellent and best of all - it is not expensive.

We had there standard menu with three fantastic starters, main course and dessert. It came with a very good bottle of Rioja and the prize was 29 euros per person.

The only problem was that in the same room a group of their standard customer had fun and that was very noisy - almost unbearable sometimes.

BAR EL GLOBO ♥

BAR EL GLOBO -  c/ Diputación No 8, Bilbao
One of the great things in The Basque Countries is there version of tappas – pintxos. They are delicious small bits with ham, foie gras, fish, etc. on a piece of bread. In Bilbao we have found a place that serve the most fantastic ones. It is just a simple but very popular bar and is located in the center. The name is Bar El Globo.

FORN DE SANT JOAN

FORN DE SANT JOAN - c/ Sant Joan, 4 | 07012 Palma de Mallorca

As Mallorca is still a heaven for tourists, preferably Germans, most of the restaurants are tourist traps with menus on all living languages. We were however lucky to find a really good restaurant - FORN de Sant Joan. This is a very nice modern restaurant with very pleasant service. The food is made with high ambitions that they live up to. It is not very expansive either.

I specially remember the my lamb that had been cooked for seven hours. It was tender, juicy and tasty. It was served on smoked mashed potatoes – delicious and different! My desert was also something extra. It was fresh strawberries that they had made holes in and filled with crème brulé. The whole thing was covered with a crust of burned sugar. We could also get good wine by the glass, which is perfect when you are two people.

An interesting thing we noticed on Mallorca was that being a waiter still seems to be a respectable profession for men, like it was in Sweden in the old days. It is nice to be served by a person who knows what he is talking about instead of a young girl that does not know the difference between a sole and a turbot.

LA TABLE DES FRÈRES DE IBARBOUR

LA TABLE DES FRÈRES DE IBARBOUR - Chemin Italienea - 64210 Bidar
Guide Michelin
The food is exceptional in the Basque Provinces, both on the French and Spanish side of the border. We went there to celebrate that we had been married for 20 years. One of the restaurants we visited was La Table des Frères de Ibarbour i Bidart . This traditional restaurant has one star in Guide Michelin.

We started off with an aperitif in the lovely garden while they prepared our table and we studied the menu. The food was excellent and a little more rustic when we mostly find on Michelin starred restaurant. The setting was pleasant and the service, naturally, perfect.
